Two Eco-Friendly Tips for Bahamas Snorkeling

We love sharing our glassy clear waters with our guests, and love getting to flaunt our wealth of wildlife in the unique the ecosystem, called the coral reef. We only ask that before boarding one of our snorkeling tours that you try to be as eco-friendly, in order to protect the coral reef of the Bahamas so that future generations may be able to enjoy them one day. If you are not sure how to be eco-friendly on your snorkeling in the Bahamas, then we ask that you follow these two tips.

Be Conscious of Your Surroundings

It is important that we educate for you to know your surroundings, in a sense that you do not swim into or hurt the work the polyps of the coral reef have done. You can destroy literally thousands of years of work these polyps have been buildings in just matter of moments. Before getting in the water, we warn and ask you to think about your actions, and try to swim slowly and cautiously as you snorkel the waters surrounding the islands of the Bahamas. Snorkeling is one of the best things to do in the Bahamas while on vacation.

Take What Doesn't Belong

It's a sad reality we have to face in the Bahamas: not everyone cares about our oceans as much as us. We also know that accidents happen, and sometimes people cannot control their trash. It is up to us to be socially responsible to save our oceans and protect them from polluters. So next time you go snorkeling in the Bahamas, the only time it is appropriate or helpful to take something, is when it is trash you find while in the water.

It could be trash from a cruise that was blown overboard, or it could have been deliberately left on a beach or thrown in the ocean. Either way, if you see trash in the water while snorkeling in the Bahamas, or snorkeling anywhere in the world for that matter, please take it with you and dispose of it properly. This action of cleaning up the ocean could mean the difference between saving a sea turtle's life. We ask that if you should ever see someone purposely litter or leave their trash somewhere, politely ask them to pick up after themselves, and educate them to save our ocean's future.

So when you book your snorkeling trip with us at Bahamas Snorkeling Tours, we hope you remember to be eco-friendly and socially responsible to take of our oceans and coral reef for future generations to enjoy.
